Pakistan’s journey in the 2024 ACC U19 Asia Cup has come to an early end at the semifinal stage at the hands of Bangladesh.
In the penultimate clash of the tournament, Pakistan’s revered batting line-up faced a disastrous collapse, setting the stage for a dominant Bangladesh victory.
Asked to bat first, Pakistan was bowled out for a mere 116 runs in 37 overs. The batting was marked by several quick wickets, with only Muhammad Riazullah (28) and Farhan Yousaf (32) showing any resistance.
Pakistan’s top-order crumbled early, with Usman Khan and the ever-reliant Shahzaib Khan dismissed for ducks in the first few overs. Skipper Saad Baig also fell cheaply for 18 runs.
The middle-order struggled to keep up the pace, with Haroon Arshad (10) and Faham-ul-Haq (8) failing to build partnerships. The lower order was unable to offer any significant resistance, with the last four wickets falling quickly.
Iqbal Hossain Emon was Bangladesh’s standout bowler, taking 4 wickets for 24 runs in 7 overs, supported well by Maruf Mridha (2 wickets) and Al Fahad (1 wicket).
In response, Bangladesh Under-19s chased down Pakistan’s modest total comfortably, reaching 120/3 in just 22.1 overs.
Pakistan was widely favored to reach the final of the ACC U19 Asia Cup against India, but Bangladesh had other plans.
The final of the competition is scheduled for Sunday.
